He\u2019s one of the most prolific of the new<\/i> <i class=\"calibre3\">writers of the past decade, and is also rapidly becoming one of the most<\/i> <i class=\"calibre3\">popular and acclaimed of them. Baxter\u2019s first novel, <\/i> Raft,  <i class=\"calibre3\">was released in<\/i> <i class=\"calibre3\">1991 to wide and enthusiastic response, and was rapidly followed by<\/i> <i class=\"calibre3\">other well-received novels such as <\/i> Timelike Infinity, Anti-Ice, Flux,  <i class=\"calibre3\">and the<\/i> <i class=\"calibre3\">H. G. Wells pas-tiche <\/i> The Time Ships  <i class=\"calibre3\">(a sequel to <\/i> The Time Machine), <i class=\"calibre3\">which won both the John W.
