John opened his
\neyes and looked out of the window. His head was still groggy, so he
\nremained still and blinked his eyes a few times, happy to let the
\nsunlight slowly bring him back into the real world. Over on the
\nwindowsill lay a pair of pliers that looked so old and rusted, that
\nhe wouldn\u2019t be surprised if his granddad had used them during the
\nwar. World War II? World War I? Maybe even the Boer War for all
\nJohn knew.<\/p>\n

Through the
\nwindow he could see the top of a building. Behind it there was
\nanother building, and a bit further out into the distance there was
\na grassy hill with a statue of some kind at its peak. People milled
\naround the statue: couples holding hands, kids rolling down the
\nslope, dog owners just out for a walk. A man playing the trombone
\nhad a small audience standing around him, all of them clapping.
\nThey were all too far away for John to be able see their faces in
\nany detail, but he could see that every soul up on that hill was
\nsmiling, happy, and joyous. And why shouldn\u2019t they be? It was a
\nlovely sunny Saturday, a perfect time to pop out to the local park
\nwith your loved ones, and enjoy an iced tea on the hill.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
