Camil e had either been the world’s most powerful hurricane or<\/p>\n

the largest tornado in history. Certainly it had done the job to<\/p>\n

this oil rig, Kel y thought, donning his tanks for his last dive into<\/p>\n

the Gulf. The super-structure was wrecked, and al four of the<\/p>\n

massive legs weakened – twisted like the ruined toy of a<\/p>\n

gigantic child. Everything that could safely be removed had<\/p>\n

already been torched off and lowered by crane onto the barge<\/p>\n

they were using as their dive base. What remained was a<\/p>\n

skeletal platform which would soon make a fine home for local<\/p>\n

game fish, he thought, entering the launch that would take him<\/p>\n

alongside. The two divers would be working with him, but Kel y<\/p>\n

was in charge. They went over procedures on the way over<\/p>\n

while a safety boat circled nervously to keep the local fishermen<\/p>\n

away. It was foolish of them to be here – the fishing wouldn’t be<\/p>\n

very good for the next few hours – but events like this attracted<\/p>\n

the curious. And it would be quite a show, Kel y thought with a<\/p>\n

grin as he rol ed backwards off the dive boat. <\/p>\n

It was eerie underneath. It always was, but comfortable, too. The<\/p>\n

sunlight wavered under the rippled surface, making variable<\/p>\n

curtains of light that trained across the legs of the platform. It<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
