It sounded like someone was knocking with a sledgehammer. I
\nrolled over and cracked a bloodshot eye. I couldn\u2019t see a
\nfigure through the window, but that wasn\u2019t surprising. I
\ncould barely make out the lettering on the grimy glass:<\/p>\n

I had blown my wad buying the glass and wound up being my
\nown painter.<\/p>\n

The window was as dirty as last week\u2019s dishwater, but
\nnot filthy enough to block out the piercing morning light. The
\ndamned sun wasn\u2019t up yet! And I\u2019d been out till the
\nsecond watch barhopping while I followed a guy who might lead me to
\na guy who might know where I could find a guy. All this led to was
\na pounding headache.<\/p>\n

\u201cGo away!\u201d I growled. \u201cNot
\navailable.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cGo to hell away!\u201d I yelled. It left my head feeling
\nlike an egg that had just bounced off the edge of a frying pan. I
\nwondered if I ought to feel the back to see if the yolk was
\nleaking, but it seemed like too much work. I\u2019d just go ahead
\nand die.<\/p>\n

I have a little trouble with my temper, especially when I have a
\nhangover. I was halfway to the door with two feet of lead-weighted
\ntruncheon before sense penetrated the scrambled yolk.<\/p>\n

When they are that insistent, it\u2019s somebody from up the
\nhill with a summons to do work too sticky to lay on their own boys.
\nOr it\u2019s somebody from down the hill with the word that
\nyou\u2019re stepping on the wrong toes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
