The Moth\u2019s Machinations<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re sure about this, Morpheus?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI am,\u201d Morpheus answered, dragging off his gloves and tucking them into his jacket. \u201cYou, however, appear to need convincing.\u201d Magic tingled at his fingertips, a pulsing blue light just beneath the skin. Due to the iron bridge outside, his powers were limited to a few benign tricks. But it would be enough to get his point across if necessary.<\/p>\n

The carpet beetle\u2014who stood as high as Morpheus\u2019s collarbone after Morpheus had consumed a shrinking potion\u2014gulped behind his many clicking mandibles. His carpeted hide quivered. \u201cNo, no. Please, you misinterpret my reservations.\u201d The insect\u2019s twiggy arms trembled as he flipped through the alphabetical tally on his clipboard of all the memories that had been lost in Wonderland. \u201cIt looks like a boring way to spend an afternoon, is all \u2026 spying on a human\u2019s forgotten moments.\u201d<\/p>\n

Morpheus shifted, and his wings cast a shadow over the beetle\u2019s face. \u201cAh, but this particular human has much to teach me.\u201d<\/p>\n

This particular human had managed to capture something Morpheus desired above all else in the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cHave a seat\u201d\u2014the beetle pointed to a white vinyl chair\u2014\u201cand I\u2019ll ready the memories for you.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
