The full moon floated in the sky, shedding its cold light over the forest. A faint breeze murmured through the leaves of four massive oak trees; dappled light and shadow moved over the pelts of many cats as they slipped into the hollow below. <\/p>\n

A muscular, bracken-colored tomcat emerged from the bushes that lined the sides of the hollow. He bounded across the clearing and leaped to the top of the great rock that stood in the center. <\/p>\n

Three other cats were waiting there. One of them, a she-cat with a brown tabby pelt, dipped her head in greeting. <\/p>\n

\u201cWelcome, Redstar,\u201d she meowed. \u201cHow\u2019s the prey running in ThunderClan?\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve plenty, thank you, Birchstar,\u201d the ThunderClan leader replied. \u201cIs all well in RiverClan?\u201d <\/p>\n

Before Birchstar could reply, one of the other leaders interrupted, scraping his claws on the harsh surface of the rock. His gray-black pelt was a shadow in the moonlight. \u201cIt\u2019s time this Gathering started,\u201d he rasped. \u201cWe\u2019re wasting time.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cWe can\u2019t start yet, Swiftstar,\u201d the fourth cat mewed. Her 1 <\/p>\n

creamy brown pelt held the frosty shimmer of starlight. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re not all here.\u201d <\/p>\n

Swiftstar let out an impatient snort. \u201cWindClan have better things to do than sit about waiting for cats who can\u2019t be bothered to come at the proper time.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
